Understanding Your Hormones: Why "Normal" Bloodwork Doesn't Always Tell the Whole Story
If you've ever been told your labs look fine while still feeling exhausted, moody, and off — you're not alone. Here's what integrative health looks at that conventional testing often misses.
One of the most common things I hear from women is: "My doctor ran bloodwork and said everything looks normal — but I feel anything but normal." This was my own story too, and it's why I'm so passionate about taking a deeper, more integrative look at hormonal health.
Conventional lab testing typically checks whether your hormone levels fall within a broad reference range. But that range is built from population averages — not from what's optimal for you as an individual. A result that's technically "in range" can still leave you feeling exhausted, foggy, or emotionally depleted.
Integrative health looks beyond the numbers. We consider how your hormones interact with each other, how your liver is processing and clearing them, whether your gut is reabsorbing estrogen it should be eliminating, and how chronic stress is affecting your cortisol and progesterone balance.
Nutrition plays a huge role too. Blood sugar instability — even without a diabetes diagnosis — can wreak havoc on your hormonal rhythm. So can under-eating, over-exercising, poor sleep, and unaddressed emotional stress.
If you've been dismissed or told to "just" manage your symptoms, I want you to know: there is more to explore. Your body is sending signals. Learning to listen to them — with the right support — can change everything.
